Estie the Mensch by Jane Kohuth

Estie's grandmother tells her she should be a "mensch".  This means a good person who's well behaved.  But Estie doesn't even want to be a person!

Random House Children's Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  You can get a copy of it at your local bookstore now.

The illustrator is Rosanne Litzinger, and her illustrations are vibrant and appealing.

This is the story of a little girl who would rather be an animal than a person.  (I always got along better with animals, so I can relate!)  She mimics her dog, the birds outside, and any other animal she sees.  She's shy, you see.

When she goes to the zoo, she has a marvelous time; there are so many animals there.  Then she meets Petie, who likes to talk.  He also laughs at her funny animal antics.  And it's Petie who teaches her how to be a "mensch".

This picture book will make your young ones laugh, too.  Be prepared to see them do some animal acting after reading it.  After all, it is fun!

Happy reading.
