Chirchir is Singing by Kelly Cunnane and Jude Daly

Here is a tale from Kenya about a young girl who wants to be useful, but isn't quite strong enough or coordinated enough to do chores...

Schwartz & Wade Books published this picture book in August and sent me a copy for review (thank you).  Kelly Cunnane is the author, and Jude Daly is the illustrator.

Little Chirchir wants to help, but what she does best is sing.  Trying to help her family with chores just doesn't work out.  She drops Mama's water bucket, spills Kogo's tea and more.  She wants to be a productive part of the family, but what can she do?

The illustrations show the size of Kenya's outdoors:  It's mostly fields with few buildings or trees.  Chirchir's family doesn't have a lot, but they are happy with what they have.

You can introduce your child to a different culture with this picture book.  And Chirchir does find something she is good at doing to help her family...

Happy reading.
