The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison

Lo has an obsessive compulsive disorder.  She has to say things a certain number of times, make movements to offset stress, and she hoards things and puts them in a certain order only seen in her mind.  Her world is messed up.  Her brother has died, her father works very long hours to forget and her mother lives in a halo of drugs in her bedroom and doesn't even know she's there most days.  Then she's close to a murder and her life gets even worse...

Egmont USA and Net Galley allowed me to download an ebook of this story and read it (thank you).  It was published November 4th in hardcover, so you can get a copy now at your local bookstore.

Penelope (Lo) is lost and alone without her big brother.  School and home are both problems for her.  Even her little tricks are having trouble calming her.  So she takes to riding the bus and going to areas of town she hasn't seen before.  Unfortunately that leads her to trouble...

She's there when a woman is killed and barely gets away without being seen.  The police are perfectly happy to close the case when they find a suspected killer.  But Lo knows it couldn't have been him because she's found evidence to the contrary.  What cop is going to listen to a young girl's story and believe it?

This is a well written story that flows smoothly.  Lo is a main character that is it's easy to care about.  She has nothing, she's different, and she's trying to survive.  When the killer comes after her, you hope she can run fast enough to escape...

This one is a page turner that keeps your interest from beginning to end.  It's a cold hard gritty world out there and Lo is doing her best to survive.

Happy reading.
