Net Galley and Image Comics allowed me to download this graphic novel for review. This was the first graphic novel for Minotaur Press and I couldn't imagine what a hardboiled pulp story would be like in that form. The book was published at the end of July and you can pick up a copy now.
Nick is 78 and has the wrinkles to prove it. He had turned his Mafia boss in and took the money and ran. He began a new life in a new location, but he knew they'd never stop looking for him.
This is typical hardboiled pulp. Everyone has a gun and uses it, lots of people end up dead, and the odds of Nick surviving are small. He doesn't give up, though. He's been waiting for them.
Nick reminds a bit of the Rock, a wrestling star. The Mafia boss looks like Christopher Walken. It makes the graphic portrayal interesting and more authentic.
This is a new way of looking at pulp and it's intriguing. I expect it will introduce this old style of writing to a whole new audience. We live in interesting times.

78 years old and still going, impressive to have made it to that age in his line of work. So many don't. As for one of the characters looking like Christopher Walken, talk about scary. It's the eyes. Not for me, but as you said definitely up the ally of some readers, old and new!
