Journey to Rainbow Island by Christie Hsiao

Yu-ning lives on Rainbow Island, where everything is sweetness and nice.  Life is good and happiness reigns.  Then a big black dragon arrives and attacks.  In the aftermath, Yu-ning has been burned, part of the city has burned, their sacred crystals stolen and the dragon has stolen her best friend...

Ben Bella Books and Net Galley allowed me to download and read this ebook (thank you).  It was published November 11th, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

This is written for young middle grade readers.  There's excitement, danger, a quest for Yu-ning, magic animals and more.  Yu-ning's greatest weapon is love.  She opens her heart and shows love to all creatures (including humans) and they change and welcome love into their lives.  To me, that's a bit too much "pollyannaish", but it may make young ones happy.

Yu-ning has the mark of a long-lost race of warriors that fought dragons and now she must find the last weapon that can be used against them.  It's a magic bow and with magic arrows and two brothers in two locations hold them.  Her trip is dangerous and uncertain.

As can be guessed, there is a happy ending.  However, the evil sorcerer is still alive and he has the crystals and some dragon eggs, so the story isn't over yet.

Happy reading.
