Fat & Bones And Other Stories by Larissa Theule (Author), Adam S. Doyle (Illustrator)
This is an odd little book. The author's imagination went wild and she has created a fat fairy, a farmer's son called Bones, and even more interesting characters. Even the flowers aren't kind in this story...
Lerner Publishing Group and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published, so you can find a copy now at your local bookstore.
If you like a mix of horror and fantasy that is dark but intriguing, this book is for you.
Bones and Fat are trying to kill each other. Fat's spell affects Bones' mother rather than Bones himself, so Fat is back to creating a new spell. You have a cat, pigs, a spider, flowers, and more in the stories. The stories all tie together and are not very long.
Some of what I read scandalized me, but it's fiction and it's for the younger readers. They probably won't even pay much attention to the pigs anyway.
I found it to be an interesting read and worth the time it took me to read it. I think younger readers will enjoy the dark side of the story and the accompanying illustrations. Why not visit your local bookstore and check it out?
