Someone is stealing expensive art items. No one knows who or why. Miss Seeton points out he or she picks things with wintery associations. Might be the title or artwork or the darkness but it seems to set a theme. There are other items but winter is overlying subject matter. When she gets asked to donate a picture she's drawn with a few additions to make it more wintery, she does so. Her local Scotland Yard cop who's married to a girl in the village takes it to his place to set it up for bait...
Farrago and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published and you can grab a copy now.
Miss Seeton is her usually vague self in this story. The interesting part is to see that the Oracle and Bob are both starting to talk in her manner and wander off after other thoughts while speaking. It looks like it has rubbed off.
It's an entertaining search for the robber and his accomplices. Miss Seeton even meets some gypsies. With Lords, gypsies and thievery happening right under their noses, Miss Seeton keeps sketching pictures but it takes quite a while before they can interpret what they see.
The most amusing part is that she is part-time help at the Yard but all the cops know her now and they all ask for her when they get an impossible case. Who would have thought an old lady and her umbrella would be so useful to the police force?
